Chris Averett is the manager of the Thomson Hall dining facility.
Aramark is the dining services provider for Winthrop University and
Chris is one of the managers. In the month of Febraury, the Thomson
Hall RA staff approached Chris about doing a special event to
celebrate Asian Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year as many know it). We
asked Chris if could partner with the dining hall to have special,
traditional food and we as the Thomson staff would provide the
decorations and educational information. Of course, we got an excited
and resounding YES from Chris. We sent him a couple of ideas for food
we wanted and he also sent us ideas. He researched and found good
recipes and took the time to make them all. Chris hand pinched 600 pot
stickers the night before the event. Chris and Aramark do not have to
go out of their way for events like this, but they always do. We know
that special events and special food that may require special
ingredients are expensive, but they also are willing to work with us. Last year, Chris and Aramark worked with us to create amazing Africa
dishes so we could connect our Common Book reading to programming, and
special desserts were made to celebrate the Japanese Valentine's Day. Chris is constantly working hard and with a smile on his face. He
knows students and staff and does not walk by without saying hi, no
matter what he may be carrying or working on. It is Chris that deals
with compliments and complaints and works to fix them. Because of people like Chris Averett, Winthrop is a great place for
our students, faculty, and staff. We are lucky to have him and Aramark
on our side! Word Count: 293
