Please explain the outstanding contributions of the nominee during the month of nomination

Connie Pruitt is in her second year as a Resident Assistant in Phelps Hall at Winthrop University. Connie is an extremely patient, helpful, and caring Resident Assistant. She goes above and beyond the call of duty to assist and serve her residents. She is a true role model to her students through her strong academic achievement, involvement on campus, and her willingness to help others. Her course load is heavy, but she manages her time so well that I was surprised to hear just how many hours she spends in class every week. She has the highest GPA on staff (semester and cumulative), which just goes to show just how successful she is in her classes. Her caring and compassionate nature makes her very approachable to her residents.

As a music education major, Connie shares a passion for jazz vocal performance and has started getting her music out there to the campus community. Last semester, she performed at a local coffee shop, and immediately I was able to witness the impact she has had on other students as well as faculty and staff on campus. She had huge support, especially from her Residence Life team (including Resident Assistants and Professional Staff).

Specifically, through her floor community, she continues to show her support for helping students be successful academically and personally. Currently, she has shown a great deal of support to a student in crisis. She has given this student a great deal of her time, to help her with occassional school work and to help her learn coping skills for college success. She has gone above the call of duty to make sure this resident feels at home on campus and in the Residence Hall.

Connie's programming is well planned and executed. She responds to the needs of her residents. When her residents want a post secret program, she makes it happen. When it was determined that Phelps Hall would go offline for two years for renovations, Connie was one of the first to plan a floor meeting with her residents to explain the situation and help them understand how to find space to live the following fall. Connie is also thoughtful and creative when it comes to door tags, displays (on-call board), and bulletin boards. Her efforts are greatly appreciated by her residents. She has the respect and admiration of her residents.

On the staff team, she has an incredible gift for motivating others. When Connie speaks, everyone listens. Connie does not speak just to be heard, she speaks with a purpose. Whether it is to help resolve a dispute, keep others on track, or just to add a positive note to uplifts the staff. Connie is highly regarded as a strong Resident Assistant in Phelps Hall and by other Resident Assistants on campus. She continually impresses me with her ability to keep focused and selflessly serve others.

As her supervisor, she has been a pleasure to supervise. She makes my job easier, by doing her job exceptionally well. She is mature, self- motivated, and she maintains a positive attitude. She is very deserving of this nomination and I hope to have more Resident Assistants like her on staff next year.
