There is music pumping from room 205. Laughter filling the room of
105. Cheering roaring from 102. Video games chiming in 204. Welcome to
the summer session at Asbury Hall -- a community as unique as the
residents that live here! It still amazes me how close everyone has become in such a short time
span of four weeks. That is how long our first summer session one goes
on for, the whole month of June. I remember when holding our first
floor meeting in early June and seeing all the new faces and unique
personalities we were going to have. Just four weeks later, I can
truly say I am thankful to have had the opportunity to serve as an RA
during this first summer session. I have been able to get to know each
and every one of the residents on a personal level in such a short
amount of time. It has been interesting to see how the residents have grown together
over the course of the summer. You can always find Dante on the
balcony making some obscure reference to Aretha Franklin for no reason
other than to get a laugh out of you. Jacob can always be found
wrangling up a posse to shoot some basketball; Naana and Brandi going
for their late night strolls; Collin going on his daily run; Danielle
and Clint at the picnic tables having their midnight talks; Kim Dong
Woo riding his bike throughout campus; Elizabeth and Chris roaming
about the sidewalks; Jeremiah and Jamie watching ESPN; and Ronny,
Marcus, and X playing the stereo getting the whole hall bumpin’. The best part is that no matter how different everyone is or how
varying their interests may be, the residents of this community all
mingle and interact with one another. Our Sunday cookouts and Tuesday
night dinners really show this the best, as everyone chows down and
plays games with one another. The best part is when everyone is
talking and sharing their thoughts and ideas or just being silly,
laughing and smiling. This is what community is about. For the month
of June, Asbury Hall has been like a second home that we all share
together. A place where we can all be who we are. No matter who or
what we are, we are all the same. I am going to miss all of these individuals when my time ends as their
RA and we all go on our separate ways until the fall semester. I will
definitely remember this summer, simply because of all the unique and
wonderful residents that I have been so lucky to have and get to know.
They are the epitome of a positive community in a residence hall. Word Count: 456
