Jaime Ingrisano is the outgoing NRHH president of UNC's Upsilon Nu Chi
chapter. Jaime is more than than merely an outgoing president.
Jaime's love for this organization is infectious. She has made NRHH
and RHA integral aspects of our campus through her recognition,
motivation, and support of others. First, to speak of Jaime's recognition. We were boarding our plane
for NACURH San Diego 2010 when I told Jaime that I had brought thank-
you notes. She laughed and said, "That's good. I always have some in
my purse." In fact, she'd brought forty thank-you notes in various
styles. In Jaime's words, nothing says thank-you like a hand-written
note. Jaime understands that recognition is a habit. Too often we
take those around us, as well as our universities, for granted. Jaime
has instilled this habit of recognition into our RHA and NRHH. Jaime has taught us the power of writing OTMS. Better yet, Jaime has
shown us the power of a bid in recognition. On the campus level,
Jaime was instrumental in teaching and encouraging bid-writing. On
the regional and national level, Jaime took this devotion to a new
level. Jaime wrote a national-winning bid for an Advisor from a
different university, Tracy Cook. Jaime's recognition for Tracy fuels
our understanding as an organization that through recognition we are
capable of continously establishing the models and ethics of our
organization. It is in this way and others that Jaime motivates our RHA, NRHH, and
student leaders to be our best. It is hard to seperate Jaime's
motivation and her support of others. For Jaime support leads to
motivation. Or in other cases when she is motivating us on a
particular project, she is sure to provide adequate support. Jaime did this for me and our NACURH delegation by encouraging us to
recognize what would have us and our organization grow. She stressed
that at times these may appear to be different things. It may appear
that by going to a personality-test session that I am not directly
contributing to our organization as a whole. She stressed that this
is not the case. In order for our organization to represent all of
our residence hall's residents needs, I had to represent my own needs. Jaime also asked us to reflect on the sessions we went to, our overall
conference experience, take-aways, and our goals for next year. It
was important to have these guiding and supportive questions. These
questions motivate us to ensure that we are creating tangible benefits
from this experience. She also encouraged us to attend boardroom, both regional and
national. For a large number of first year delegates, I saw this as
important. It ensures that we are familiar with the organizations at
a deeper level. It was also through watching Jaime's participation at
board room and her supporting words that I was able to participate.
Jaime motivates us by example frequently. Or other times she motivates
and encourages us through listening to our own ideas and providing
sage words. I know that it is because of Jaime's recogniton, motivation, and
support of others at the NACURH 2010 conference that I am writing this
OTM. Jaime has encouraged me to recognize the importance of RHA and
NRHH on the campus level and to find my level of involvement. It is
through Jaime's work and mentorship that I was finally capable (it
took me long enough) of understanding that RHA represents all
residents in our halls. It is a governing body that advocates the
needs of its people, and it is through Jaime's dedication that our
organization is so successful. Word Count: 592
