Please explain the outstanding contributions of the nominee during the month of nomination

Dave Arnold is someone who most certainly deserves recognition for outstanding efforts he has always put forth in the Residence Hall, but even more so in March 2011. Dave is a first year Associate Resident Director at Carman Hall and has made quite an impact in his time so far at EIU. His mission statement, “Do it BIG,” not only shows how he models his life, but also encourages others to “Do it BIG” and give it their all every single day. As a first year ARD, he has been advising hall council, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, as well many other organizations, but these two groups stand out for the month of March. Being the advisor of SAE, he has helped develop young men in a positive way by demonstrating the characteristics displayed by any member of SAE, which are leadership, honor, scholarship, and integrity. Since, he has shown those qualities, the SAE executive board put through a special election this month to make Dave an honorary member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity; this passed unanimously. His outstanding efforts did not stop there. People who are around Dave know he is a very energetic and funny guy. This draws others to him because they can not help but stop and let him put a smile on their face. With his funny personality, his next “BIG” idea came into a reality. Lunchbox Voodoo is a sketch comedy group performed by EIU students, which attracts a wide variety of students all over campus. Dave worked diligently to bring Lunchbox Voodoo to Carman Hall and put on a “BIG” performance: his hard work paid off. The comedy group came and put on a fantastic show for their largest audience they have ever had, which was over one hundred and twenty students! This record breaking crowd is a tribute to Dave’s hard work, marketing tactics, and desire to “Do It BIG.” Another thing Dave did in the month of March was put on a presentation about mission statements for students at EIU. His presentation brought in different reasons and viewpoints on mission statements. All of the mission statements had an impact, but some points stood out more than others. They were “I do not like failing, find a good mentor, the only person that stands in your way is yourself,” and to tell yourself “Find a good mentor.” This last statement I feel is most important because Dave is that mentor that people should look to for guidance. He is a class act, a person that will brighten your day and someone who can guide you on your path to being a successful individual. He is capable of doing this because of his desire to make a positive difference in the eyes of everybody he is around, Dave Arnold is deserving of this award. He not only motivates others in Carman Hall but is bringing the motivation to all of the students at Eastern.
