Julia is a freshman Aviation student at UND. The reason I feel she deserves an of-the-month
award is because she is someone truly dedicated to building leadership and community. Julia serves as the President of the Honors Program Student Organization (HPSO). I am an
officer on her board, and I truly appreciate her creativity, dedication, and organization in her
position. In October, she helped plan and coordinate a service event for honors students called
"Trick or Canning." Students in the Honors program went door to door asking Grand Forks
residents for nonperishable food items to be donated to a local food pantry. This event was a
great success. Julia shows great leadership abilities during meetings of HPSO. She takes careful
notes, has an agenda already planned, and goes above and beyond to empower the officers on
her board while giving us all the freedom to contribute our own ideas. She keeps the meetings
brief, on topic, and meaningful. As our President, Julia has planned several bonding activities
for the HPSO board. In October, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings on a Sunday night to just talk
and get to know each other better. Aside from HPSO, Julia is very involved with our residence hall (Johnstone-Fulton). She attends
weekly Hall government meetings, serves on committees (in October she was on both the
Homecoming and Halloween committees), and contributes to group discussion at the meetings.
Julia is known throughout the building for her friendliness and upbeat personality. Julia attends
RA and hall government programs frequently. On top of all her involvement, Julia is a great student. She is one of the most focused
individuals I know. Julia deserves to be awarded an OTM award because she is a great example
of being involved during her first semester. Word Count: 295
