I would like to nominate the Ray Street RA staff this month for their
graceful transition from two staffs to one. At the beginning of
February, the Ray C HD, Kim Hume, was promoted from her undergrad HD
position to the open North Central position which gave her a staff of
twelve along with other HD responsibilities. As a result, the Ray C
staff combined with the Ray A/B staff. As the Ray A/B Hall Director, I
was given the responsibilities of Ray C. I was nervous for this
transition, as I am a second year graduate student in the midst of a job
search as well as finishing my degree. It turns out I had absolutely no
reason to be nervous. The first week of the semester, I held my
one-on-one meetings with the Ray C RAs to get to know them. Each RA came
prepared with what they were doing for their collateral assignments as
well as any pertinent information I would need to know about on each of
their floors. I unfortunately had to miss our first staff meeting as a
whole due to a prior commitment, but an RA quickly volunteered to lead
the meeting and another RA in charge of the RA activity for that week
made sure to plan something to include C into our new, combined staff.
Additionally, Cheri and I have implemented some new rules and procedures
to help me keep track of what all of my staff members are doing and the
RAs have done an excellent job of following them. Lastly, ResLife
created a new administrative position to assist me with dealing with
keys and scheduling for the complex. Our former MRA stepped up to this
position, leaving her old position open which now three RAs are applying
for. I am very impressed by the leadership and sense of responsibility
the RAs have demonstrated this month and I am excited to see the things
my new staff will accomplish this semester. Word Count: 331
