Vince Lombardi once stated, “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.” I believe that Melissa Lemerond is a successful person, for that reason. Missy shows no lack of will; you will always find her trying to make whatever she is a part of better. Whether it is her work as the Residence Hall Associations National Communications Coordinator/Wisconsin Communications Coordinator (NCC/WCC) or as the National Residence Hall Honorary Secretary position, there are many great accomplishments that make Missy a great success.

When it comes to selecting delegates for conferences, this task can be quite daunting. There are applications to read, emails to draft and send, and preliminary meeting information to be put together. Missy faced this challenge head on, with a will to select and start preparing the best delegation that Stout could have for the NACURH conference this summer. After hitting a few bumps in the road when selecting the delegation to attend the annual Wisconsin United Residence Hall Association conference, it was determined the selection rubric needed some revision. Missy ensured that the conference application packet and the selection rubric were revised to assist in selecting the best delegates. With new categories, specific descriptions to ensure fair selection, and including the new incoming NCC/WCC in the selection process all aided in created the best group of student leaders. In addition, to assist delegates in preparation for the conference and to ensure everyone has all of the needed information to get the most out of their participation in this conference, Missy has chosen to utilize the campus OrgSync system and the RHA group to keep delegates connected and up-to-date. At the first delegate meeting she assisted delegates in understanding how to navigate the website and utilize different resources it has to offer like messaging and chat functions. She has gone above and beyond in helping to get the delegation started on the right track towards getting the most they can from this conference.

Not only does Missy serve on the RHA Executive Board, she also serves on the NRHH Executive Board as the Secretary. Missy has gone above and beyond in her accomplishments this past month within this position. Missy ensure that everyone is up to date on what is happening with the chapter OrgSync page through utilizing the calendar function, uploading committee documents, sending out meeting minutes, and marking attendance for our general and executive board meetings. Not only has she worked to improve the use of the NRHH OrgSync webpage, she has also increased the work of the community service pillar. Missy took it upon herself to start a chapter philanthropy project for the local warming shelter through a puppy chow sale members assisted in. She also took it upon herself to help the chapter get involvement with other organizations on campus for community service. Missy met with the Stout ASPIRE program to organize a trip, which will be taking place in April, to participate in Feed My Starving Children program. This program allows students to give back through packaging food for third world countries as well as then traveling to the Global Market for the experience of diverse cultures. In addition Missy has helped to pair NRHH and RHA in participating in the annual Relay For Life event on campus.

Missy exemplifies great success, achievement, and definitely portrays a great will to do marvelous things. You can always find Missy working on new and better things, constantly striving to do her best for both herself and others.
