Jon Reinagel is the newest addition to the Residential Life staff at the
Missouri University of Science and Technology. Jon is an alumnus of
Rolla and worked previously as a Resident Assistant and Senior Resident
Assistant when he was an undergraduate student. Jon was hired in
February as the building manager when the Resident Director of TJ took
another job in another city. Being a building manager requires being on
call to fix problems that may arise and ensuring that the students in
the halls have a safe environment. Jon can always be found either
working in his office with the door open or at the front desk talking
with residents or the desk workers. He spends a lot of time in the
building getting to know the residents for which he serves. Jon has a
two year old son, Kyran, who he is always taking to eat in TJ’s
cafeteria or playing in the lounges. Residents love saying hi to Kyran
and playing with him; it makes TJ feel a little more homey. Jon lives
on the first floor of the building with his family and always has that
door open as well. This simple, but powerful gesture shows a lot about
how much Jon wants to be involved in the students’ lives. He and his
wife Carla are always welcoming students into their home to talk or even
to enjoy some homemade ice cream, if residents are lucky. Jon has been
so welcoming in a place where he should be the one being welcomed, and
it definitely shows how much he cares about the halls. In the month of March, Missouri S&T celebrates St. Pat’s in a very
unique way. To ensure students are being safe in the residence halls,
RAs are on 24 hour duty rounds. Jon spent a lot of time with them in
the duty room for the weekend of St. Pat’s. Several times he was up
until 4am or later hanging out and making duty a lot more enjoyable. He
watched movies, ate snacks, and just had a good time with the staff. It
was really nice getting to spend that time with him because it was a
good time to relax and get to know him as well as have fun on duty. Along with being the building manager, Jon has stepped into the role of
Thomas Jefferson Hall Association (TJHA) advisor. As the advisor, he is
required to attend the biweekly TJHA meetings and also hold meetings
with the executive board members. Jon not only goes to meetings but he
brings a lot of energy and excitement for the position. Jon is very
attentive during the meetings and always likes to have fun when he gives
his advisor reports like commenting on things that happen during the
meetings or offering to help out with anything that needs to get done.
In the past, the advisor was just kind of there and didn’t do a whole
lot with the position. Jon really enjoys his job and the opportunity
that he has to get to work with the government members that are
representing their residents.
