Kaibab-Huachuca Hall Council has accomplished many things in the month of March! We have
defined the word awesome and shown people what it is like to work together and achieve our
goals as a team. During the month of March, we wanted to provide our residents with
programming, recognition, and leadership opportunities that would give them energy to
succeed in the final months of the school year. With all nine active members, our creativity
and
excellence shines during every program and event. This month, KaHu has really stepped up its game in programming. We held our 6th annual
campus wide program, World Traditions Fair (WTF) with over 320 attendees. This annual
diversity program encourages students to submit cultural foods, performances, or traditional
practices to help showcase the rich diversity within our campus community. The 6th annual
event showcased 14 student-produced meals and four large group performances to include
the
Mexican Folklorico dance team, Falun Dafu Chinese Meditation club, and UAs Black and Blue
Hip Hop Crew. This year, Hall council helped out in planning, cooking and of course,
smoothly
executing this outstanding event. Another campus wide program that is being planned is a
turn
around Trip to Six Flags in San Diego in collaboration with Stadium Hall Council. The trip is
scheduled for Friday the 13th, and KaHu has been diligently working to ensure that all
logistics
are taken care of before the trip. We also found it necessary to welcome back our residents
after spring break, so we did, "Welcome Back Waffles" and made waffles for the residents on a
Wednesday night. Kahu decided to start the last week of March with a movie night, "Mean
Girls
Monday." It is clearly shown that our hall council has been really on top of it when it comes to
programming for the month. Not only are we great at teamwork and keeping our residents entertained, but some of our
hall
council members have really shined individually this month! We sent five of our members to
the
Bear Down Against Hunger service project hosted by the Omega Eta Lambda Chapter of NRHH
to help package food that would be sent to Somalia to assist with individuals suffering from
famine. President Clarke Scott won the RHA extra mile award for her participation during RHA
elections. The NRHH "You Rock" award was given to our Eco Rep, Maddy Guendel for her
participation at RHA's Hall-A-Daze and UAs Earth Hour. Our hall has also become extremely involved on the state, regional, and national level,
especially in regards to conferences. Four of our members attended the Arizona Residential
Leadership Conference in which UA was awarded the Battlezona trophy, and two of our
members will be attending NACURH this June at CU Boulder. Additionally, two of our hall
council members are on the conference staff for #No Frills 2013 and have been working hard
to
provide assistance to the conference co-chairs in the first couple of preparation months. Finally, our hall council ended the month with a burst of recognition. Our group began
preparing seven RHA end of the year bids to recognize the outstanding contributions of our
students and staff. Our hope is that all of our hard work will be paid off at the end of the year
banquet in April. Our hall council has truly become a cohesive family unit this year! We have continued to work
together throughout this whole year and cannot wait for the leadership opportunities that lie
ahead! Word Count: 579
