Nikki Galmarini When thinking about a staff member that works in the Department of
Residence Life and Housing at The University of Akron that honestly goes
above and beyond on a daily basis, I think of Nikki Galmarini. She is a
joy to work with and truly understands the needs of others. She not only
goes above and beyond, she is always thinking about others and helping
others succeed. Recently, as a member of the Summer Conference Staff
with Lisa Wray, Nikki has worked to ensure that staff members are not
inconvenienced by incoming conferences and has gone above the call of
duty of including our staff in decisions. She works hard to support and
advocate for the staff, just because she sees the need, rather than
being asked. Nikki is the type of staff member that takes the time to see how
others are doing and see if there is anything she can do to make their
experience better. Knowing that I am unable to lift heavy things (being
pregnant) and knowing I’ll be out of the office on maternity leave in
the near future, Nikki is always asking me how she can help. Working
with someone like this not only makes for a very positive work
environment, it makes me more aware of how I should be and can be
helping others. It’s the little wows that add up everyday! Nikki offers
to carry packages that come in, to order future supplies, and do the
little things that she is aware can make a big difference. I rarely have
to ask Nikki to do anything because I feel like she always is there to
help and offers assistance before our staff even realizes they need it. To work with someone like Nikki is an absolutely delight! I have
known Nikki since I started here in 2010 and she has always been a
pleasure to work with. I’m sad to see her move on to other ventures this
fall, however I know wherever she works in the future, she will make an
amazing impact. I hope future professionals model her in how they work
and care for others. The passion she shows no matter what her day has
been like and the experience she offers does not go unnoticed. As a
graduate assistant I saw her work countless hours above and beyond the
standard working requirements. She is always in the office early, leaves
late, and works many weekends (especially during conference season).
This is a true testament to her work ethic and future in Higher
Education. She is will a professional that many will be lucky to work
with and she will leave a lasting positive impression! I am honored to write this very deserving May 2012 OTM about
Nikki Galmarini for her hard work, dedication, and true passion for
people and in the field of higher education.
