When students and staff begin their summer breaks and begin to take a
break from the day to day trials of college and university life, they
are no longer thinking about work or organizations. They tend to focus
on more soothing things: beaches, summer jobs, relaxation in general.
Nevertheless, there always comes an exception in the month of June when
NACURH fever strikes those delegates and advisors that will be
attending the year’s conference. As the National Residence Hall Honorary advisor of the Truman State
University chapter, Mark Lowry was more than willing to take on the
advisor role of our NACURH 2006 delegation in Berkeley, CA this past
June. Mark’s enthusiasm kept our delegation of ten optimistic about
fundraising and other tasks that needed to be accomplished before the
conference. He ensured that we were all up-to-date on necessary
conference information, as well as our own departure/arrival times
before the conference began. When a conference advisor is picked for NACURH, it is usually asked
that they submit a program to present at the conference. Mark did not
only submit one, but three. Of these three, he presented two at the
conference. Only four members of the MACURH region made it into the
Top 35, Mark being one of them. Throughout the conference, Mark Lowry kept us focused on the reason we
were there. We were to see everyone we met in a different light, and
with Mark’s guidance, we kept this in mind through the duration of the
conference and even a month after. Being able to put up with nine college age delegates is one thing, but
to be able to teach them something is another. Not only was Mark the
picture-perfect advisor, but he was also a good friend to us, and all
of the people we came across at the conference. Mark Lowry did an
outstanding job as our NACURH 2006 advisor, and for that, he deserves
to be recognized. Word Count: 324
