For the month of August, I would like to nominate the community on the
southside of 4th Floor Ryle, Busch House. It consists of 58 freshmen,
6 upperclassmen, and two Student Advisors. This community has come
together so quickly within two weeks that it is almost unbelieveable
that this group of people had not known each other previously. I believe that under the guidance of the two Student Advisors, this
community had the stepping stones to becoming great. The Student
Advisors (SA's) began by quickly establishing house-dinners, game
nights, and outings within the first couple of days the freshmen moved
in. The turn-out was high, giving the residents opportunities to meet
each other and form bonds. Busch House has really shown their colors through their present
actions. Together, they have made "birthday crews" where for any
person's birthday, a large sign is made and nearly all residents
(secretly) sign it and various surprises are made for the recipient.
These surprises include: cake, dinners out, games, or some small pranks
within the hall. Busch House has also created their own website. This was a completely
student-led initiative and is currently maintained by residents of the
house. The residents also respond to personal and group challenges as well.
Several have found ways to study together and tutor each other in
various subjects, cards and gifts have been made for those suffering
from the loss of family members, and other personal milestones. They
support each other with presence and attention. While at the same
time, the continue to have fun! They have held their own dance parties in their lounge and invited
other residents in Ryle Hall to join them. On any given night, there
will be other residents in Busch House to socialize or work and
contribute to the community. Its wonderful to see them draw more
people together. Recently a hall-wide challenge to have the most open doors per house
was presented. The performance of Busch House is what prompts me to
write this OTM. They encouraged each other to open doors and to
socialize. Together they won the contest by having nearly ALL their
rooms open. Walking down the hallway in this community is always entertaining. For
any person going through, you will definitely run into someone (or
something) to prompt your return due to their friendliness and uncanny
humor. Word Count: 391
