Jennifer has been an inspirational service worker to me ever since I
meet her in the 90+ degree heat of August, to her outstanding
performance in the month of November. During the beginning of the
November, Jennifer was out on sick leave to recuperate from surgery she
had on both of her hands in late October. For many years of her life
Jennifer has lived with diabetes, and when that was mixed with her daily
work here at Cary, it began causing problems with the tendons in her
hands. Jennifer’s surgery fixed the problems; however, she still had
scars and sores on her hands when she returned to work a few weeks
later. The first time I saw Jennifer after her leave, she was working in
Ford Dining Court because she wasn’t immediately able to return to her
regular hall duty. Jennifer was visibly excited to be back to see
everyone and approached her temporary change in duty at Ford with
optimism. A few days later, she was back on our floor and talking to
residents with her usual friendly demeanor and gave me a great hello as
well. Even if being courteous to residents is part of her job
description, Jennifer’s cheerfulness and sociable nature are absolutely
genuine and above the call of duty. Jennifer is an extraordinary example
to the residents of Cary SW 3; her story and positive outlook are
excellent models that residents can apply to their own adversity.
Jennifer’s absence was noticed by everyone on the floor and numerous
residents had approached me asking where she had been and how she was
doing during her leave. Her attention to detail transcends what is asked
of her and is apparent when walking the floor on a daily basis.
Residents take notice of Jennifer’s exceptional work ethic and respect
the pride that she has of her work by helping to keep the hall clean.
Jennifer is still recovering, but despite her healing hands, she ALWAYS
maintains a positive outlook and is ALWAYS seen with a smile on her face
- even if it may be uncomfortable. We are truly thankful to have
Jennifer as a part of our community and we are grateful to have her
back. Jennifer’s perpetual commitment goes beyond her respective service
duties and obligations to Purdue University, Cary Quad, and the
residents of SW 3 and has touched those around her. For her selfless
character, Jennifer is most deserving of recognition for a job well done
as we are sincerely appreciative. Thanks Jennifer! Word Count: 420
