The month of December is the most challenging and stressful time
for residents. Homesickness is at its worst, attitudes are getting
colder with the weather, and motivation is dwindling at the time when
it’s needed most. However, Cary South Four has Don Scott. Don Scott is our service worker. This month he has been
astonishing. The talk in the hallway has changed from West Lafayette’s
unpredictable weather patterns to the fantastic things Don has provided
us with. Don has thwarted any residents’ feelings of homesickness by
posting Christmas cards on bulletin boards and encouraging Christmas
lights to be displayed in the hallway. Don’s warm attitude toward his
work and his residents has had an incredible positive impact on our
floor’s moral and also on our work ethic. Don’s December enthusiasm
has been spreading to everyone around him. Whether it is just shooting
breeze with Don or watching him work with his enormous smile, residents
always leave feeling uplifted. Don has made studying much more
pleasant by posting signs of “good luck on finals” with a basket of
mints at each water fountain. This month Don has been especially considerate. Unfortunately,
some of us have busied Don with some messes that we should have cleaned
up, namely milkshake disasters, however, Don offered to clean them up
so that we could focus on our finals. He has changed his work routine
to make certain that he will not be interfering with resident’s sleep
or study by planning noisier jobs for later in the day and earlier in
the week before finals are in full bloom. Don Scott is the perfect choice for the spotlight of the month.
His extra hard work and thoughtfulness this month has made the fourth
floor of Cary a very pleasant homely place. For this, Don has
certainly earned the right to be called Don Scott, spotlight of the
month of December.
