As the end of the school year comes to a close, many people take this
time to relax and forget about classes and the organizations they
spend their entire school year devoted to. While it is always a
relief to feel done and accomplished in our endeavors, the work is
never completely done. This idea goes hand in hand for everyone,
including organization and group advisors. Throughout the course of the year, Jimmy French has advised our
National Residence Hall Honorary chapter at Truman State University
and co-advised our Residence Hall Association. His dedication to the
organizations proved very beneficial for our NRHH chapter by helping
to motivate us to become more visible on campus, increase Of The Month
submissions, deciding on a chapter name, and finalizing our
organization Constitution. As a new Hall Director in the Residence
Life department, Jimmy showed everyone what he was capable of and how
committed he was to helping students grow. Jimmy French is no stranger when it comes to the National Association
of College and University Residence Halls conference hosted every
summer. Because of his past history with the conference, Jimmy jumped
at the chance to be one of two delegation advisors that accompanied
the Truman State University delegation this year to Oshkosh,
Wisconsin. Jimmy’s enthusiasm for the conference kept our delegation
motivated throughout the remainder of the spring semester and kept us
excited during our journey up north. Jimmy contributed many ideas to
our delegation and encouraged all of us to submit programs and attend
programs that would benefit, not only ourselves, but the two
organizations we were representing at the conference. However, Jimmy
wasn’t all talk. He not only attended programs and round tables he
wished to attend, he also worked with our delegation to ensure that we
were not all attending the same programs and we diversified our
programming sessions. Jimmy also took it upon himself to go to
programming sessions that our delegation couldn’t make it to due to
conflicting programs and presentations. Because of Jimmy’s enthusiasm and encouragement, both the Truman State
University Residence Hall Association and the Bess Truman Chapter of
the National Residence Hall Honorary have been given a breath of fresh
air. We have returned from the conference with a plethora of new
ideas and ways to implement them. Jimmy has been a blessing to have
as an advisor and will continue to help both of our organizations
grow. With his guidance, Truman’s RHA and NRHH are ready to take one
small step into bettering the lives of those students living within
the residence halls of Kirksville, Missouri. Word Count: 433
