The NRHH chain of leadership is composed of three links representing
caring, dedication, and participation. While all NRHH members embody
these characteristics, Nick McKeever does so in an exemplary way.
During the month of January Nick demonstrated his dedication in many
different ways. Nick is dedicated towards improving the life of his
residents, improving leadership and recognition, helping others, and
pushing the Bess Truman Chapter of NRHH to new heights. Nick is 100%
dedicated to his role as President of NRHH and ought to be recognized
as the Executive Board Member of the month for January. When Nick was elected President in April 2007, he had one goal in mind
for NRHH: write a bid. After months of hard work and collaboration,
Nick accomplished this goal in January. Overseeing the bid-writing
committee, Nick spent the first part of the semester gathering the
last parts of the bid for NRHH Building Block Chapter of the Year.
Soliciting letters of support from Truman’s Residence Hall
Association, Director of Residence Life, and the President of the
University, it was clear that Nick’s goal of putting together a bid
had residual effects for the organization; Truman’s campus was
starting to notice NRHH, quite an accomplishment for such a young and
small organization. When Nick goes to represent our chapter at No
Frills in February, the Bess Truman Chapter will be sponsoring a bid
for the first time in our organization’s history. Having been an NRHH
member for 3 years and as a former president of the organization,
reading the finished bid was one of the proudes
t moments of my college career. With Nick’s dedication,
organization, and sheer determination, other MACURH and NACURH schools
are starting to recognize our name and the great things we have going
on around our campus. In addition to putting the finishing touches on the Building Block
bid, Nick showed his dedication to NRHH in January in many other
ways. Always thinking ahead, he is beginning to look at dates for our
Spring Banquet. By thinking about it now, Nick knows that he will be
more likely to get everyone who deserves recognition for their great
year to come, avoiding the usual scheduling conflicts that arise when
waiting until March to plan for an event in an always busy April.
Nick has also set-up deadlines for service projects that a sub-
committee is working on. Working within these deadlines, all NRHH
members will be held more accountable this semester and have greater
opportunities to serve their community as an organization. In the
first meeting of the semester Nick asked NRHH what we would like to
accomplish in the spring semester. Based off of the responses he
received, Nick is starting to brainstorm ways to strengthen leadership
amongst future executive boards of NRHH, RHA, and hall senates. While Nick’s dedication definitely has shined through in January
within his role as NRHH President, it also was evident in other
aspects of Nick’s life. He was a crucial member of the Winter
Training Committee and oversaw programming sessions for our ResLife
Department’s training for Student Advisors. Nick also went to a
conference in January regarding career paths in Student Affairs.
Through this conference he was able to expand his horizons and
leadership skills for the betterment of himself and for our campus.
It ought to be clear that the reasons why Nick deserves to be
recognized with the Exec Board Member OTM simply begin with his Exec
Board position as president and carry over into all aspects of his
life. Truman is certainly lucky to have such a leader on campus. Word Count: 598
