The position of National Communications Coordinator is not one that
can be filled by just any one person. The person has to be significant
individual who is almost unexplainable to those outside of the NACURH,
Inc. system. Ashley Livermore fulfills this position, although her
path to get to the job was not the easiest transition. At Truman State University, Matt Raper served as the NCC before
Ashley. He, however, did not fulfill his full term due to his move
from NCC to RCC for Missouri in the MACURH region. Ashley, therefore,
was elected a month prior to No Frills 2003 having only attended
MACURH Z003 as a delegate and had no transition or training before
assuming the title and job of NCC. NACURH 2004 this past May was her first experience leading a
delegation or preparing for a conference at all. Due to the amount of
work Matt had to deal with in his new position, he had little time to
help her adjust. She stepped up to the challenge and prepared an
absolutely amazing delegation to go to the conference. Whenever she
misunderstood a regulation or did not know the answer to a question,
she never hesitated to ask for help from her advisor or the Regional
Board of Directors. This, I think, is something very admirable of a
leader: to know when they do not have the best answer but to actively
search out the information to learn for the future. She appropriately
delegated members to work on cheers, banner, t-shirts, and other tasks
to prepare. She also planned a day at Six Flags over Mid-America for
our delegation and invited many others to join us in the fun. This day
become one of the greatest bonding experiences for our group. Ashley went on the bring 10 student leaders to a conference that most
had never heard of before and successfully motivate them to make the
most of their experience. At the same time, Ashley learned how to do
her job from those NCCs around her by attending business meetings and
socials. She worked hard to make the conference as smooth as possible
for all of us and showed little discontent with her position. She left the conference talking about how to improve things for next
conference and to better prepare the delegation ahead of time. She may
not have known what to do before this conference, but next conference
not one stone will be left unturned. She is becoming one of the best
of the NCCs I have ever had the pleasure of working under and I
honestly do not think anyone could do a better job. Ashley Livermore
has come from a freshman delegate to an educated NCC in less than a
year. At NACURH this past May she proved her qulaifications to me, our
delegation, and Truman State University. Word Count: 474
