In the month of September, Pam Crawshaw has gone above and beyond her
duties as an Administrative Aide in the Housing Programming Office.
Pam’s positive attitude, knowledge of University policies and
procedures and commitment to excellence is shown daily in her work
with students and staff while assisting in the planning of campus-wide
activities. Pam’s job entails completing most of the legwork necessary to have
campus wide programs in Housing. She meets with students and staff
that would like to plan a program and then takes their dreams of the
program and makes them reality. She meets with Risk Management and
Legal Council, assists with Vendor Contracts, purchases tickets,
orders shirts, and makes sure the vendors are paid when services are
rendered. While most would leave the office at 4:30 at the end of the day, Pam
does not. She stays late to make sure that all loose ends are tied up
and that no little error can fall through the cracks. Earlier this
month there was a Salsa program that she was informed of last minute
and Pam managed to get a contract approved through Risk Management,
Purchasing, and Legal Council and was able to get it through the
proper channels in 3 days. This process normally takes 4-6 weeks to
complete in order to get the appropriate approvals, liability waivers,
signatures, contracts signed, etc. She could have easily told this
group that due to the last minute nature of the event, it was not
possible to proceed with it, but instead she put aside everything else
she was working on and put 110% of her effort into making sure this
program could still be a success. Pam came in on a Saturday to assist
with the Education and Outreach tent at the first football game. She
helped with clean up after the event and made sure that everything was
taken care of before going home. This month she also has scheduled
(and rescheduled) a cookout that had to be previously canceled two
times due to weather. Not only did she help coordinate the cookout
part, but she also was in constant contact with the company that was
bringing down inflatable games and revised a liability waiver for
those participating on the inflatable games. On the day of the event
Pam stayed after work to go to the event and was assisting with the
food and made sure the vendor was paid. Pam’s first priority in our office is to assist with programs and she
takes that a step further by continuously putting the students first.
It can be easy to get caught up in the amount of paperwork and number
of approvals it takes for a large event to be put on, but Pam is top-
notch and thorough in everything she does. She continues to push the
students to take the programs to the next level. She has a desire to
see the students continue to put on large-scale programs and to see
them positively influence the residents of our University. I believe that Pam’s commitment to her job and desire to see great
things from our residents puts her a level above many others on this
campus that just see their job as a “9-5”. Due to her dedication and
willingness to do what it takes to get the job done, I humbly nominate
her for the award of Spotlight of the Month. Thank you for your
consideration.
