I am pleased to nominate Danny Waltman for Executive Board Member of
the
Month. Danny has been on the United Residence Halls Council’s executive
board as NCC since April and has been an amazing addition to the
board. In September, Danny was outstanding in both his position as NCC and as
a
contributor to the overall success of URHC. Danny has pushed a “go
green” initiative this fall, and has personally tried to further this
effort by creating a completely online application system for
applicants
for UT’s SAACURH delegation. Danny has gotten students excited about
attending conferences, both through talking about conferences at
meetings and in his personal interactions with students. As a result,
more than 25 students applied to attend SAACURH – more than three times
as many students as we can actually take! This is a great problem to
have, as we now have a great number of people who want to go to
conferences and who want to be involved – we can pull from this group
for committee opportunities and future conference delegations. This is
the most students we’ve had apply to attend a conference in more than a
year. Danny has also redesigned URHC’s web site. While webmaster is not part
of Danny’s job description as NCC, during September he has continually
updated and revised the site. Unlike last year, when the site was a
wasted resource that never got updated, now it is being used for
minutes, funding proposals, a monthly newsletter, online application
forms for conferences and other events, an event calendar, NRHH
updates,
and office hours and contact info for the URHC exec board. Students and
staff are now accessing the site to get information about URHC. When
the
exec board mentions something they’d like to see on the site, Danny
practically has it finished and updated before the meeting is through.
The site looks clean and professional and is easy to navigate. Danny’s first meeting with the SAACURH delegation was outstanding.
Without needing much guidance from me, he covered everything that
needed
to be covered in the initial meeting in a professional manner. He
delegated tasks like display and banner to delegates and got everyone
excited about attending the conference. He has also started working on
a
bid for UT to host No Frills 2010. Danny has started doing research on
what it will take for UT to host the conference, calling local hotels,
checking with campus resources, etc. He’s done a great job getting
started on the legwork and has made it easy for me to help him with the
process. In addition to the outstanding work he does on the executive board,
Danny is also involved in other activities. He serves as the AD of
Publications for TARH, and TARH has a newsletter now that goes out to
all the affiliated schools – this newsletter is funny, informative and
professional, and all the students who read it will know what’s going
and will be looking forward to the TARH conference in February! Danny
is
also still involved with the hall association in the building he lives
in – he was president of a very active hall association last year, and
he has been helping get the new executive board installed and energized
during September. September has been a really busy month for this involved young man, but
Danny excels at each task he sets out to do. His energy and charisma
are
contagious, and the executive board benefits from his creative ideas
and
constant encouragement. ::NOTE TARH (Tennessee Association of Residence Halls) Word Count: 582
