Bryan Meyers is not your typical student. When you first meet him, you
think that you are talking to a greek gladiator who is built like a
wall. Yet after you move past that initial shock, you find that he is a
compassionate and dedicated student who is looked up to by those around
him. His service to the college not only through his leadership
capabilities, but also his work ethic has placed him as an outstanding
student who will sorely be missed when he graduates in the spring. During the month of September, Bryan's responsibilities lay not only
with the college, but also the community. One of his main tasks during
this month was as the president of SAAC which is an organization of
student athletes that governs over all the other athletic organizations
on campus. The ultimate goal of the organization is to create strong
campus spirit and to create good communication between the different
athletic teams. To encourage this sense of community, Bryan spearheaded
an initial push by programming a massive tailgate at a soccer game. To
make this tailgate a success, he met with several student life heads as
well as the department of public safety to gain funds and a grill for
the food. With this, he intends to start a tradition of having a campus
gathering before every game. Another responsibility that Bryan was
tasked with this month as president of SAAC was the creation of a new
Greek community award. By doing so, he hopes to bring more greek life
to support each of the games thereby strengthening the community and
college. During this same month, Bryan also worked at least two to four
hours a week as a student ambassador. "Bryan's willingness and
friendliness to help has been a great boon to this college," said Tim
Crowley, Dean of Admissions. This quote perfectly mirrors Bryan's
ability to instantly give a sense of reassurance and sincerity that
makes him such a valuable asset to the admissions department and the
school. Not only does he give his all to these organizations, but at
the same time he swims on our varsity men's swim team. As a swimmer, he
also devotes around twenty hours a week to ensure that he stays in
perfect condition and shape for the school's team. Within this month,
he also swam at an intrasquad meet about two months before their season
started. "He is the epitome of a swimmate and I would have no one else
by my side," mentioned Randy Myers. Yet even with everything that Bryan contributes to the college, he also
continues to work in the community at the new Robinson Film Center at
least five to six hours a week. As the Robinson Film Center Liaison, he
constantly writes in the Conglomerate which is a local school newspaper
to keep students up to date about what the events they are hosting at
the Center. Not only does he intern at Film Center, but he also puts
his artistic talents to use for both the college and the center
frequently. Just recently, he produced sketches for publicity for the
Centenary Activities Board's Freak week as well as publicity for
homecoming week. He also juggles work, internship, and his other
organizations with his professional writing communications major which
he devotes several hours a week to creating a portfolio. Everything
that Bryan does shows high levels of creativity and dedication. His
willingness, friendliness, and leadership make him a necessary commodity
for the school and for that he should be Student of the month of September. Word Count: 596
