Nishant had a hard first month of school. During Opening, about three
days before classes began, his co-RA, with whom he shared a floor (and
with whom he had worked for several previous years), resigned. While a search process began immediately to find a new RA for the floor,
Nishant did an incredible job assuming not only his normal duties but
also acted as the RA for the other half of his floor. During this time,
he managed to not only carry out his duties as a double-RA, but to
attend classes, organize three regularly-occuring weekly events (one
off-campus trip per week, one trip to the Campus Recreation Center for
an organized sporting activity, and one on-campus event each week),
complete his medical school applications, and also planned (by himself)
an area-wide safety program. Once a new co-RA was selected and hired, Nishant also took on the task
of teaching his new partner how to go about being an RA. This new hire
had, of course, missed the entirety of Fall Training, Opening, and the
first three weeks of the Fall semester student staff training class.
While he had regular meetings with his Hall Director to be brought up to
speed, much of the daily needs of the residents on this floor continued
to be met by Nishant, who used his regular activities to role model the
appropriate behavior of a student staff member and to train the new RA
about the small details that make up any RA job. In short, Nishant has clearly gone above and beyond the requirements of
his position over the course of the last six weeks, and deserves to be
recognized as such. Word Count: 279
