Please explain the outstanding contributions of the nominee during the month of nomination

Scott Brown is not a name that many people would recognize around the GA Tech campus, but they would all know his face and friendly personality. To residents and some staff members Scott Brown is known as the “Orkin Man”. Yes, Scott is GA Tech’s Orkin man who takes care of all our exterminating needs. Scott deserves to be recognized for our contributions on campus for the month of September. I have worked at 3 campuses and have dealt with numerous of exterminators and Scott is by far the most knowledgeable and friendly of all the exterminators. He takes time with residents to explain how they can prevent different bugs for coming back in the future. Most of the time the answer is simple - “keep your room clean”, but Scott finds a way to say this to residents without insulting them or causing them to get upset or their feeling hurt. Scott is also great about following up with residents to make sure the problem is solved. He goes far above and beyond what is asked of him. In one case this month, a resident had problems with ants in his room. Scott looked for the ants and where they were coming from, in order to stop the problem. Scott is not a person that just comes in and sprays for bugs, he always goes the extra mile to find the root of the problem and tries to prevent the problem from ever coming back. Scott’s customer service alone qualifies him for this spotlight award, but he also has worked on a problematic case. During September, Scott worked on a case where there were bed bugs in an apartment. We have not had bed bugs at GA Tech before and the Housing Staff was baffled where they came from. Scott worked this case to find out how the bed bugs got into the apartment and how we could take care of this problem for our residents. Scott was in meetings with Housing and maintenance officials throughout the month to make sure that this problem was addressed properly. Again, Scott works for Orkin not for GA Tech. He talked to the residents several time about the issue and did get to the root of the problem. He truly went above and beyond in his work this month on Georgia Tech’s campus and truly deserves to be recognized for his hard work and commitment to GA Tech residents and housing.
