Emerald Taylor is the perfect picture of leading by example to do the
best for residents and staff alike at the Jardine Apartment Complex
this
month. Emerald is a former Resident Assistant in the complex, and has
been able to leverage this experience during the month of September to
help out in many sticky situations. As a Community Advocate at the
complex, Emerald serves as the first line of contact folks have with
the
office and staff. It falls on her shoulders to field calls from
dissatisfied residents directing them to solutions. Emerald also has to
diagnose concerns and make sure that people are being directed
correctly
to the resources they need. Emerald listened patiently to one resident
in particular on several occasions, dispatched staff to the situation,
and calmly explained to the resident that staff was on the way. Her
presence of mind allowed him to feel heard and though he didn't give
her
credit at the time, he expressed to other staff members later that she
had done all she could do. Additionally, as a returning staff member, Emerald has taken it upon
herself to find projects to do during her time at the desk, making sure
that her time is used to benefit residents and constituents of the
complex. It is not unusual to hear her ask "Do you have anything you
need me to work on?" and you know when you give her a project she will
work on it and do it well. Finally, Emerald showed that she understood the importance of building
relationships with her fellow staff members at all levels and
rescheduled her life so that she could be at an event that was of
special importance to the Administrative Officer for the complex. Many
of her peers would have made excuses as to why they couldn't take their
personal time to be present for the event, but Emerald chose to invest
in the relationships around her this month. Word Count: 327
