| Origin of Program: As residents of the oldest and most historic residence hall on campus,
the Resident Assistants in the building, wanted to present residents
with an opportunity to learn more about the history of the institution
and our building. Word Count: 38 |
|
| Please give a short description of the program: The Resident Assistants invited a staff member from the university to
come in and present on the history of the institution and our
building. This staff member serves as the Director of Archives and
Special Collections at the Library and is very knowledgeable about the
history of the institution. The staff member presented and narrated a
silent black and white promotional video that was made when the
university was still young and all-female. The presentation educated
residents on how the university developed, how the curriculum has
changed over the years, and what it was like when it was an all-female
institution. Word Count: 102 |

| Goals of the program: The program was designed to assist residents in recognizing their role
as a member of the campus community, and how they fit into the history
of Winthrop. The program was designed to help residents understand
the development of women's place in history in the "big picture"
sense, as well as learn more about Winthrop's history and development
of programs. It also gave residents a chance to consider their place
in this development of history.Word Count: 74 |

| Positive and lasting effects of the program: Residents who attended this program truly benefited from the
experience. Residents were able to learn more about the rich history
of Winthrop University and appreciate their university and experiences
with each other even more! Having a knowledgeable speaker, easy level
of participation of residents, and an interesting topic made this a
strong program. The residents that attended the program felt more
connected to the university after participating in the program, and we
would have loved for more to have that experience.Word Count: 81 |

| Short evaluation of the program: Overall, the program went very well. Ideally, the Resident Assistants
would have liked to see more resident participation, especially as the
residents who attended did get so much out of it. Having the
opportunity for a staff member to come into the building to educate
our residents was a great experience and overall the program ran well.Word Count: 57 |
|
| How could this program be adapted to other campuses? This is a program that could succeed on any campus, providing Resident
Assistants can find the appropriate resources. Most campuses do have
someone who serves as a historian/archivist, or who has a working
knowledge of the university's history. By working with such an
individual, this program could easily be put on in various buildings.Word Count: 54 |
