| Origin of Program: Bryan had previously executed a successful mocktails program in another
residence hall on campus.Word Count: 14 |

| Please give a short description of the program: This program is designed to make residents aware of the dangers of
drinking, specifically, of date rape drugs. The dance and bar was set
up in the main lounge of Ryle Hall. A number of menus were posted
around the lounge and along the bar for residents to order their drinks
which were made by a staff of Student Advisors as "bartenders." These
bartenders created "drinks" from a mix of blanks, juices, and pop while
at the same time slipping in Tic-Tacs to stimulate “drugging” the
residents. Other staff members also contributed to “drugging” the
masses by integrating themselves amongst the crowd during the dance
party and sneaking Tic-Tacs into unattended cups.Later in the evening, Department of Public Safety officers arrived to
“bust” the party and provide an educational experience. They
contributed to a skit to where a bartender was arrested for serving to
minors and pointing out several people who would have been raped or
seriously hurt by the “drugs.” The program was highly successful in that everyone who participated in
it had fun and the residents continued to talk about it for days
afterwards. I feel that it was great in raising awareness in the
targeted freshmen as well as building community.

| Goals of the program: The program date was purposefully chosen to target the freshman
residents and raise their awareness of the dangers of alcohol and date
rape drugs. In addition, the program succeeded in building hallwide
community.

|
| Positive and lasting effects of the program: Residents of the building walked away knowing how to be more safe if
they choose to go to parties. The also now know that parties can be
fun, even if you don't drink!Word Count: 33 |
|
| Short evaluation of the program: The program could have used a little more preparation and a more
relaxed timeline, but it was a huge success. Residents and staff alike
enjoyed the program and took something away from it--whether it be the
risks of partying or meeting new people, everyone was affected.

| How could this program be adapted to other campuses? This mocktails program is easily adaptable to other campuses. The
program can be disguised as a regular get-together or large dance
party, which adds to the surprise affect of an arrest and grabs the
attention of those participating. You don't necessarily have to use
blanks, but a mixture of juices if budgeting is an issue. Have funWord Count: 57 |
