| Origin of Program: Having been part of extremely successful food drives at Owen Hall, Dan
wanted to rally Shreve to beat the reigning champs in total food weight.Word Count: 25 |
|
| Please give a short description of the program: Dan suggested and commandeered the idea for the food drive program,
the idea being to perform a "sneak attack" on Owen Hall and beat them
in the food drive. To accomplish this, Dan attacked the program from
many angles:* Standard canned food collecting. We held a per-floor contest within
the hall, the prize being a pizza or sub party for the largest amount
of food collected (by weight). Residents were encouraged to use their
dining dollars, as well as collect cans from On-the-Go with their
extra meal swipes. * Money collection. Dan and other RA's traveled around the hall
collecting money for the food drive from residents with their doors
open. This alone collected over $200 in cash, which was used to buy
bulk food from Sam's Club. * Fund-raising program. Dan and other RA's organized a Pie Your RA
night, the proceeds of which went to purchase bulk food. The event
raised almost $100 within an hour. In the end Shreve collected and donated 2,000 lbs. of food for the hungry. Word Count: 173 |

| Goals of the program: The main goal was to get Shreve residents to collect food for the
hungry, and also be more conscious about people who may be less fortunate.A side goal was, of course, to beat Owen at the weight of food
donated. Unfortunately we weren't able to beat Owen's 2,900 lb.
donation, but combined we donated close to 5,000 lbs., 1/2 of the
campus-wide drive's goal. Word Count: 65 |
|
| Positive and lasting effects of the program: In addition to Shreve residents have a more vivid outlook on the need
for events like the food drive, the RA's all gained a tremendous sense
of pride as they rallied to beat Owen at the food drive. This will be
a staple program for semesters to come.Word Count: 48 |
|
| Short evaluation of the program: The program was a great success by Dan and those who assisted him.
Dan put the effort, advanced planning and enthusiasm into this program
that made it a success. Because of Dan's efforts, the food drive will
be a cornerstone program for Shreve in the future.Word Count: 46 |

| How could this program be adapted to other campuses? Because this program affects people all over the world, the
adaptability of this program is as easy as it gets. Any campus can
find a food bank or organization that assists the needy and start
their own food drive, holding contests as Purdue did. Additionally,
the in-hall floor competition is just as adaptable and can help the
hall collect even more food.Word Count: 62 |
