| Origin of Program: The motivation of the program is Valentine's Day, the day of love.
Resident Assistant Hien Dang was speaking to one of her
classmates from Saudi Arabia and another guy from India about
relationships and traditions in their countries. As an international
student from Vietnam herself, Hien Dang discovered that love,
relationships, and dating are all different in different countries and
cultures. She came up with the idea of inviting people from different
countries and different continents to come and talk about dating and
relationships and how they differ from America.Word Count: 90 |

| Please give a short description of the program: This program will consist of a panel of international students from
all over the world including India, Australia, Ghana, Saudi
Arabia, China, and Vietnam. We also had representation from all over
America, including Afrian American and Caucasian students. These
students discussed dating and relationships from
their cultural perspective and answered questions from the audience.
Some questions were: What is dating like?; What does a typical date
looks like?; Do people date?; Do parents allow dating?; and Do
people marry foreigners or how is interracial dating viewed in your
country? There are more questions that were asked involving
dating and relationships and marriage and even divorce.
Each guest received a big Hershey chocolate bar. Giving and/or
receiving chocolates is an American tradition for Valentine's Day,
so we felt it was fitting to offer participants some chocolate. Word Count: 134 |

| Goals of the program: The goal of the program is to help residents gain more knowledge
about other cultures in the world and their practices around dating
and love. Another goal is to celebrate Valentine's day, a day of not
only giving and receiving love, but also knowing more about love. Word Count: 47 |

| Positive and lasting effects of the program: After the program, we learned a lot about love and relationships in
Middle Eastern, Asian, and African countries. We also were able to
see so many huge differences in between these countries and American
culture. We also found out how lucky we are over here, under
democracy and open-mindedness. Word Count: 49 |

| Short evaluation of the program: The program went really well. I planned for it to be only 30-45
minutes, but it lasted for more than an hour. Everyone asked
questions and were very attentive when the speakers were answering
those questions. The guest speakers were not hesistant to talk and
discuss a lot, even about controversial topics surrounding arranged
marriages and interracial dating. I felt an atmosphere of
sharing, understanding, and attentiveness.Word Count: 67 |

| How could this program be adapted to other campuses? Every campus has international students. Other campuses may even
have students from many other countries not represented at Winthrop.
Each culture signifies a tradition, each culture is different from
another. As a college campus, it is very important that Resident
Assistants promote and appreciate diversity and respect for
differences and other cultures.Word Count: 52 |
