Please explain the outstanding contributions of the nominee during the month of nomination

Tim McMullen deserves to be recognized with an OTM for the month of June. Tim is the Technology Coordinator for the Office of Residence Life at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and has a lot on his plate. He manages 11 computer labs, maintains approximately 30 staff computers, and works to keep our department current with our judicial (PAVE) and housing software (StarRez). He is more than willing to help cover the office when we are short staffed and offers his assistance whenever needed.

Tim has done a lot this year, but one of the biggest things that came to completion for the month of June were his efforts aimed at upgrading our StarRez software. He coordinated the effort with StarRez to explain our needs and worked with their staff to take our housing program to the next level. This upgrade included the purchase of a new roommate module that assisted incoming students to find and choose a roommate that best fits their personality. As a result of his work, the Office has received 75%fewer phone calls regarding students who either need help finding a roommate or who are not happy with the roommate they were paired with. This has helped the rest of our staff to focus on other project that need to be completed.

Tim was also charged with getting our judicial software updated by importing old records and getting the program up and running this year.During the month of June, he managed to coordinate the transfer of whole years’ worth of records’ from the old software to the current software we are using. Tim worked to get this system up to the operating standards our staff is used too and he was able to do so this year.

Tim has been great to have on staff and he is more than willing to help with all of our technology needs. He has helped make the office more efficient by cross-training his colleagues on several of the billing processes he was solely doing and by merging computer labs together which will serve the students to a higher degree. Tim is now looking into what it would take to take some of our procedures and go mobile with them. While there is always something on the horizon, Tim is up to the challenge.

For these reasons and many more, I give Tim my highest regard and hope you will consider presenting him with the OTM award for the month of June. UNK is lucky to have Tim on staff and we look forward to partnering with him in the future.
