Please explain the outstanding contributions of the nominee during the month of nomination

Dr. Seuss penned the lines "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." for his story The Lorax. There is a strong meaning about these words, not only a person at Northern Illinois University (NIU), but for everything he does here and in his local community. That person is Brandon Antonio and he has been a stunning role model for caring and working to make things better through the changes he implements in his daily life.

Brandon is still a fresh face to the campus at NIU. He currently studies Engineering Technology when he is not running around campus or his hometown pushing for change. Brandon works to clean-up through volunteer work in his town and has had meetings with his mayor and state representatives about his initiatives. This has kept him heavily involved during the summer as he sacrifices his free time to make his community a better place for the others in his life. This is not the only thing that has been keeping Brandon busy since he was appointed as the Programming Coordinator (PC) to the Residence Hall Association (RHA) Executive Board this month.

Brandon filled an open position on his Community Council last semester as one of two programmers. This was one of his first introductions to this organization and after he was selected to attend NACURH this summer, he was hooked. Last month the PC for the RHA Board stepped down and the position was opened to nominations. Brandon immediately applied for this opportunity and worked with current board members to prepare for the position if he was selected. After several weeks, Brandon was appointed to the position as he stood out above the others for his dedicated to helping others and his dedicated and strive to fill the position on the board.

Although Brandon has only been in the position for a few weeks, this has not stopped him. He has helped pick up where the last PC left off in programming RHA's biggest event of the year, Block Party. This is an annual welcoming event that occurs next month and Brandon has already tasked himself with dealing with issues that have arrived and making sure that this event will be everything it has lived up to be in the past. Aside from this, Brandon has also helped plan out the RHA Summer Business meeting and brought many great ideas and solutions to this meeting which will help push the organization to great heights this year.

I have had the experience of working with Brandon through RHA the past semester and as the President of the current RHA Executive Board. Not only have I seen him put on amazing programs with little experience in the organization, I have seen him grow to amazing heights this summer. Brandon is going to make a great programmer and seeing how he has already tackled his new position, I have no doubt in my mind that he will plan a successful Block Party, and much more beyond that.

Brandon not only cares an awful lot, but he also does something about the things he cares about in order to support them and help them grow. It is not only because of the things that he does, but also because of the person he is, that he deserves to be recognized. Brandon is amazing first year student, who pushes himself, and others to be better, and because of this, among all of the other reasons listed above, He deserves this recognition for this category in the month of July.
