Please explain the outstanding contributions of the nominee during the month of nomination

Kody Schneider is new to the UCCS Residence Life and Housing Department, and with that NRHH, but his impact on the community is already a clear, positive, dramatic shift in culture. Kody is a positive, excitable, extroverted, happy person. I often jokingly refer to him as a golden retriever, because he shares their love of people and excitement for life. His support for the resident assistants is unmatched. Kody’s passion for residence life is a breath of fresh air for an RA who has been around for 3 and a half years. I firmly believe that people come into your life for a reason, and Kody has made the reason he is in my life very clear to me.

From the moment we learned he was the Advisor of NRHH, Kody and I made diligent efforts to become friends. We spent a lot of time just hanging out, talking, getting to know each other. From there, we launched into our hopes and dreams for this little organization. I knew we were going to be a powerhouse. October is when Kody really kicked off. He spent HOURS researching other campuses and their NRHH chapters. He wanted to know what they did, how they did it, how well it works, and how we can bring it to UCCS. Every one on one we had went late because he was so excited about what we were doing. When we went to Values Summit in early October, he acted as a sponge and absorbed every molecule of information he could. It was almost like watching a battery charge. Kody came to life and embodied the NRHH values with every fiber of his being. He even put out a Housing Newsletter that showcased various people and events.

Kody actively seeks programming opportunities for us. This month, he set up volunteers for the Halloween Safe Trick or Treat that Residence Life and Housing hosts every year, which is something NRHH has never had the pleasure of being a part of. Kody is also pursuing some service opportunities such as 24 hour livestreams for charity, food drives, and a custodial appreciation lunch. Recognition is probably Kody’s proudest passion. He loves making sweet, hand-drawn cards for his RA’s, he thanks me constantly for the work I do, and is helping us with maybe getting a space in Housing for our OTM winners.

On a personal level, Kody will change your life. He is a leader who leads WITH you. Every step of this month, Kody has been right by me as one of my biggest cheerleaders. Every small step I took, he made sure I knew how important it was. From going to something small like the Values Summit, to getting money for IACURH, to making all the arrangements and doing the paper work for IACURH, to just telling me I answered hard questions from my general body members well, Kody provides me the recognition and assistance I need to keep going. He steps in when I am too overwhelmed to function, he keeps me on base with what I need to do, he checks in with me constantly, and he really makes me feel like I am here for a reason.

I don’t think Kody has any idea how his small actions make such a gigantic impact on me. It is everything to know that, even if I screw up, I have someone cheering me on the whole way and doing literally everything in his power to ensure I succeed. I will never be able to thank Kody for the impact he has made on me.
