“Your actions speak so loud, I can’t hear what you're saying.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Meau Jones taught me this quote. He reminds me every week not only to preach what you believe in, and stand up for what matters most to you but to also make sure you show it in everything you do.

Meau is the walking optimay of passion. He believes in every person and every action. In the month of April, Meau helped me with one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through. Meau was an unwaivering source of hope and reassurance. He met with me over and over again outside of his regular business hours whenever I needed just to check on me and help me when I needed him.

Not only did he assist me with things in my personal life, but he also helped me with the tasks of my role as Coordinator of Recognition for the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). Meau has worked with Miami’s Residence Hall Association (RHA) for multiple years now. With this being said due to his experience with RHA, he helped me plan the NRHH/RHA Leadership Banquet. Without his calming presence and assistance in planning the banquet, it would not have been nearly as successful.

Besides his constant encouragement and one on one meetings with me, he also is always willing to make a connection for me. This summer, I will be attending Stars College this summer. The cost of Stars College caused me a lot of stress as I could not necessarily afford it on my own. Meau worked tirelessly to help me find funding while completely supporting me along the way. In April, Meau finally convinced me to submit my funding request as RHA had plenty of money leftover and their executive board was looking for an active student leader to provide a scholarship of some sort to. By the second week of April, Meau had helped me find complete funding for transportation and registration by encouraging me to take a chance and apply for a funding request from our RHA. Because of his encouragement and the information he gave me, Meau single- handedly saved me more than $1000 in the month of April.

Around the third week of April, Meau wrote a letter of recommendation for a leadership based job I applied to for next school year. He worked very hard on this letter as he said it was the first letter of recommendation that he ever poured his heart and soul into. Meau highlighted strengths of mine that I did not even know existed. Without Meau's support, I would not have been awarded the job.

Besides voluntarily mentoring me, Meau works with about 20 other students that he personally advises on a day-to-day basis. Meau is never short on wisdom and encouraging conversations. Meau meets with me on a weekly basis, because of his dedication to student leadership. However, he also meets with each of his 12 resident assistants and the RHA executive board. While Meau has no obligation to meet with me, our one on ones started last academic year when he was was my Hall Council or Community Leadership Team Advisor, but as you can tell our relationship did not end then. Meau has continually worked with me to better myself and push me to be the best version of myself.

While Meau's actions do speak very loudly, I always make sure to listen to every word he says. Meau Jones always gives the best advice and I am so beyond lucky to have him as a mentor.
