At the beginning of the semester, the NRHH Golden Bear Chapter
executive board suffered from some unfortunate circumstances wherein
the VP of Finance and Communications had to step down from their
position. As change often does, this situation forced the executive
board to adapt and scramble to find a replacement during the first
week of February. This is when Madeline Monique Saldaña (she/her/hers
pronouns) walked into our life. Maddie stepped up enthusiastically and
volunteered to be the new VP of Finance and Communications. This was a
huge burden lifted off of everyone’s shoulders. Every person on the
executive board (including myself) was ready to support her in any way
she needed during the transition. Little did we know, Maddie would end
up going above and beyond our already demanding expectations. |
First, I’d like to describe a little background on Maddie: one of the
hardest working people I know, even before she accepted a brand-new
position in the middle of the year. Maddie is a second-year RA in Unit
3, is double-majoring in Legal Studies and Media Studies, works
multiple jobs, and even teaches a class at Berkeley all about Drake.
With all her many obligations, she still finds time to take care of
herself, do well in her classes, and check in on her friends! Maddie
has been a devoted member of NRHH ever since she was inducted in the
Fall of 2017 and now is a revered member of our executive board.
Specifically, within the month of February, Maddie has done
exceedingly well in her new position and even in areas outside of her
expertise. After her very first executive meeting, Maddie had already
set up an Instagram for our chapter, revitalized our Facebook page,
and created two new graphics for OTM promotions. Since then, Maddie
has increased our presence online through engaging posts and stories.
With past experiences in running Instagram accounts and social media
platforms for other reasons, Maddie was a godsend and brought an
immense amount of skills to the executive board. She even set up a
series of posts spotlighting each executive board member and showing
off all their hard work to the entire chapter!
Not only has Maddie lived up to expectations within the communications
side of her role, she also has stepped up our chapter’s game in
response to finances. Starting to manage the budget of a team you have
just met is never easy, but Maddie has done it with grace. Every
executive meeting in February, Maddie has taken descriptive notes on
the programs and campaigns happening with all other committees,
including how much money and resources they’ll need. In the past, it
wasn’t even her position that took notes so her initiative and
dedication to the organization truly shines through.
Madeline Saldaña began the month of February with a million things on
her to-do list. By taking over as VP of Finance and Communications,
she added a million more. Somehow, she was able to do it all and more.
It’s because of this productivity, her vision, and her commitment to
giving 120% in everything she does, that I am honored to nominate
Maddie for the Executive Board Member of February. There’s nothing she
